Ed Sheeran – Sin City, 12th May 2011

Ed Sheeran is one of those names at the moment – either you know him or you’ve got no clue who he is. Famous in part for his nando’s skank with Example which has over one million views on youtube, Ed Sheeran is slowly creeping on to our radar, and deservedly so. He played to an enthusiastic audience on Thursday night, with a mixture of covers like Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’ and his own gems, like my personal favourite, ‘Homeless’. He held the audience spellbound, and as die-hard fan, Josh Hayman (who even dressed specifically for Ed), noted he ‘brought a usually rowdy crowd to virtual silence for the unplugged sections of his set.’

We were lucky enough to meet the man himself before the gig, and I’m happy to report he is a very lovely guy. Kind of shy and awkward, he seemed more nervous about meeting fans than we were about meeting him! He spoke to us about his topman pants, and how it’s impossible to wash much on tour so he throws them away after one wear; his love for tuna and cucumber sandwiches and how he had just popped to Tesco before the show to get the t shirt he was wearing (other clothing retailers are available).

After the show, Ed took the time to meet with every fan and chat to them and sign autographs, a rare find in the showbiz world today. If his success continues in the way it has, this might not last, so those of us who were able to chat and get his autograph are of a very fortunate group.

Ed Sheeran continues his tour this summer, including a stop at Beach Break Live. If you’re going, make sure you make time to see this very special man.
